As he picks up the 'phone to call the prison, the black signal flutters from the prison flagpole, telling the story; he has hanged his own son. Sick with remorse, he takes his wife tenderly in his arms, and they decide to start life anew.
- "Red" Dryden, son of a wealthy railroad magnate, who wishes to succeed independently, conceals his identity and takes a menial job on his father's line. He quickly proves himself to be extremely competent and arouses the enmity of a superintendent. The two men fight over a girl, and Red is transferred to a remote signal shack. The superintendent tampers with the warning signal at Red's shack, and the president's special thunders through, headed for a collision with another train. Red uses a radio device of his invention and alerts the engineer to the danger, preventing a disaster. Red's father learns of his son's heroism and appoints him to the presidency of the railroad.

This woman's death was at the hands of a UFO encounter. As this Agent questions the validity of this story, he adds that no one with reason would believe it. Swearing the men into a code of silence about the UFO encounter, this Agent wants to know the last words spoken from the murdered woman to understand the legitimate truth.

- Brent, the night operator has been knocked unconscious by a piece of lumber projecting from a passing freight, and has been rendered temporarily insane. Meantime, a furious storm arises, a track walker discovers a washout and wires a warning to Helen, who sets the danger signal for the Limited which is due in ten minutes. The deranged Brent enters, throws Helen into a closet, and sets the semaphore arm to swing back to 'clear'. Helen escapes by prying up the flooring, makes her way to the bottom of the tower, and swings the semaphore back to 'stop.' Seizing a lantern, Helen then rushes to the scene of the washout, crosses the swollen stream, and stops the Fast Freight in the nick of time, on the brink of the ruined trestle; meantime the Limited has been stopped by the semaphore, and Helen becomes the heroine of the day.

The film introduces us to Jay Gunkelman, and how his exposure to toxic waste led to his diagnosis of a pituitary tumor. Viewers are provided with a history of electroencephalography, and its use in diagnosis and treatment of brain conditions. It covers Mr. Gunkelman's educational history, and relates some stories from his early days working with psychiatric patients in North Dakota. He discusses his influences, his mentors, and his research. Provided throughout are numerous interviews with Mr. Gunkelman's colleagues, including some of world's leading minds in neuroscience: Juri Kropotov, Dirk de Ridder, and Martijn Arns. Numerous other interviews are provided with a variety of neurosurgeons and neurologists, pediatric epileptologists, clinical psychologists, and other researchers in the manifold disciplines of studying the human brain and its functions. The film concludes with Jay Gunkeman's legacy, interviews with his mentees, and explores the potentials for how the fields of psychiatry and epileptology may change going forward.
